What to expect after a chemical peel

Healing time: 1 to 7 days. Skin will be red. After the redness disappears, scaling may develop, which lasts 3 to 7 days.

At-home care: Lotion or cream applied until the skin heals, followed by daily use of sunscreen.

When to wear makeup: Usually immediately after the peel, but sometimes the next day.

Follow-up visit: No. However, 3 to 5 peels may be necessary to give you the desired results. These peels may be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.

• Use the moisturizer as directed to keep your skin moist and supple. If your skin dries and cracks, it can scar.

• If your skin burns, itches, or swells, contact us immediately. Rubbing or scratching skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection.

• Do not use a tanning bed or other type of indoor tanning. Your skin will not heal properly.

• After your skin heals, apply sunscreen every day. This will help you maintain results.

Is there downtime? Not for AlumierMD or Vivier Peels. You may feel like you have sunburn but there is no downtime.

When will I see the results? Once your skin heals, you will see the results. Healing time ranges from 1 day for a refreshing or lunchtime peel to 14 days or longer for a deep peel. To get the results you seek from a refreshing peel or lunchtime peel, you may need to have 3 to 5 peels.

How long will the results last? Most results are not permanent because our skin continues to age. If you have lots of sun-damaged skin or precancerous skin growths called AKs, you will likely continue to see new spots and growths on your skin.

What are the possible side effects? KW Beauty professionals are very experienced with peels. Side effects tend to be mild, if any at all. Some patients develop:

• Persistent redness that may last for months.

• Temporary darkening of the skin.

If serious side effects occur, it is often because the patient did not follow the proper aftercare instructions. Your risk for developing an infection or scarring increase dramatically if you:

• Fail to protect your skin from the sun.

• Fail to care for your wound as instructed.

• Scratch the treated skin or pick off a scab.

• Apply makeup before your skin heals.

When is it safe to have another chemical peel?

To maintain results, you can repeat chemical peels every 3-4 weeks.

What is Automated Micro-Needling? Automated micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. During this procedure, the Dermapen4 is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels through which topical gels, creams and serums can be penetrated deeper into the dermis to help improve the appearance of the skin.

What are the benefits? Micro-needling can significantly reduce and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks

What areas can be treated? The Dermapen4 can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How is the procedure done? Initially, your skin care professional will apply topical lidocaine to numb the skin and ensure a comfortable and pain-free treatment. Then, a thin layer of topical gel is applied and the pen is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.

How long does the procedure take? The procedure takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.

What is the downtime? Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the Dermapen4 setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skin care professional performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Many patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.

When will I see results? Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.

How many treatments will I need? Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.

What is PRP? Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an injectable treatment by which a person’s own blood is used. Platelets are vital in the process of tissue healing, and the growth of new cells. PRP thereby promotes collagen production, regenerates the skin tissue, and essentially re-energizes your cells into rejuvenating themselves. The release of growth factors amphiphiles the healing process. PRP softens fine lines and wrinkles, tightens the skin, and improves skin tone and texture.

How is PRP administered? The treatment of PRP involves a fraction of blood, collected or ‘drawn up’ from the individual patient into a syringe. The collected blood is then spun down in a special centrifuge to separate its components. The platelet rich plasma is then reinjected, and/or micro-needled back into the skin.

How long does a PRP treatment take? Typically, a PRP treatment takes between an hour or two to complete. This depends on if the PRP is administered through injections only, and/or micro-needled into the skin. This timeframe includes an additional 30 minutes for the blood to be drawn and spun in the centrifuge, and topical numbing to be applied.

Do PRP injections hurt? Microneedling and injections are not the same. We do offer under eye refresh with prp, which this section would pertain too. Some mild discomfort may be felt while the PRP is being reinjected. The sensation typically felt is a burning or tingling sensation. This sensation only lasts a few minutes after the PRP injected. We ensure our patients are comfortable throughout the entire PRP treatment and apply topical numbing cream and ice to aid any discomfort.

When will I begin to see results from a PRP treatment? Generally, patients notice tightening and a more even tone to their skin in a week or two after PRP injections. These results continue to build for up to 6 months after treatment.

How long do results from PRP injections last? Results from PRP injections can be seen for many years after treatment; However, these results vary due to the individual’s natural variation in quality of Platelet Rich Plasma, as well as their lifestyle. While we cannot stop the aging process, we can slow it down. Results from PRP injections can be extended with proper at home skincare maintenance.

What areas can I treat with PRP injections? Technically, PRP can used to treat area of the body. For cosmetic purposes, PRP is most popularly used to treat the face and neck.

Is there any downtime associated with PRP? There is no downtime associated PRP injections; However, after your treatment, your skin may be red. This is normal and to be expected. Redness usually lasts from one to 24 hours. You may also have a little swelling in some areas. Due to this, some patients like to be treated towards the end of the week, so they have the weekend to recover. Healing time varies from patient to patient. Healing may take longer if PRP injections are paired with micro-needling.

How many PRP treatments will I need? Results can be seen after one treatment, but the exact amount of treatments needed varies from patient to patient. Generally, 2‐3 treatments are advised, but more may be indicated for some individuals.

Are there any side effects or possible risks to PRP injections? PRP used for aesthetic procedures are safe for most individuals. There are very few contraindications with PRP injections. The most common side effects associated with PRP injections are mild to moderate swelling and redness.

Who is NOT a candidate for PRP injections? During your consultation, and assessment will be made to ensure you are the right candidate for PRP injections. Patients with certain health conditions are not a candidate for PRP injections. Patients who are pregnant are not candidates for PRP injections.
